Following the Will of God

The will of God is defined as God’s desire or plan. Everything that happens on this earth is not necessarily the will of God. If everything that happened on this earth is the will of God, then rape, murder, abuse, and other horrible acts must be God’s desire or plan. That is foolish to think! The Word of God is the will of God. If you want to know what God thinks about a topic, just open the Bible and start reading. One key to find the will of God is to renew your mind with the Word of God (Romans 12:1-2). The Bible is a Book filled with God’s thoughts. Isn’t that what a book is, taking your thoughts and putting them on paper? When you read the Bible, you are filling your mind with God’s thoughts. The whole Bible is the Word of God, not the word of man. Some people reading this article put no more value on the Bible than any other book. Until you overcome that roadblock to your faith, you are on the road of destruction in life. It amazes me to hear how many people who call themselves Christians put little or no value on the Bible. We as Christians are to base our faith upon the written Word of God. It is the Word of Life, and the Word of Faith which we are to live by!

The Bible gives us general guidelines and boundaries of how to live our lives on this earth, but what about the every day personal decisions that we make? Remember this, God wants His people to prosper (3 John 2); He wants His people to live a victorious life on this earth. God wants to lead us as Christians in even our every day decisions. The more you read the Word of God, you are tuning up your spirit man, crucifying your flesh, and are able to be more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 20:27 says that the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord. In other words, the Holy Spirit is going to lead you through your spirit as a Christian. That is where the Holy Spirit resides in a Christian. This is called being led by the inward witness. Have you ever proceeded with a plan and on the inside you did not have peace about it? That was the Holy Spirit leading you through the inward witness; through your spirit man. An unbeliever can’t trust his spirit man because that sin nature is still present and the Holy Spirit doesn’t live in an unbeliever. The Bible calls an unbeliever a child of the devil. But a child of God can expect to be led by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14). There have been many testimonies from Christians who were supposed to board a flight and they didn’t have peace about it. They didn’t get on the airplane and it ended up crashing. Being led by the Holy Spirit could mean life or death in some situations. Colossians 3:15 tells Christians to let the peace of God rule in their heart (spirit). That Greek word that was translated “rule” literally means to umpire. If you don’t have peace about something as a Christian, don’t proceed with that plan. Being led by the Holy Spirit will save you much heartache, pain, and disappointment in your life. Settle it in your heart today to live a life of obedience to the Word of God, and to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. In doing so, you will be a partaker of the abundant life that the Lord Jesus Christ has promised those that love Him!

God’s Will to Heal

Sickness, disease, and bondage never were and never will be God’s desire for mankind. To know if sickness and disease is the will of God or not, you need to find out when and how these came about. They certainly were not part of God’s original creation with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Sickness, disease, and bondage entered this earth when Adam and Eve sinned against God by eating the forbidden fruit. You could say this; sin was the gate that allowed the curse to enter this world. Galatians 3:13 says that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us. To say that sickness, disease, and bondage are the will of God, you would then have to conclude that sin must be the will of God. That is foolish to think! Adam and Eve had a free-will and they chose to disobey God’s command. The fact is, God hates sickness and disease just as much as He hates sin! They are lumped in the same category; the fruit of Adam and Eve’s sin. Sickness and disease are referred to as a curse in the Bible (Deut. 28:15-68), never a blessing. However, health and healing are referred to as blessings or benefits from God (Psalms 103:2-5)!

The Bible is very clear that a lack of knowledge of God’s Word can invite destruction in your life (Hosea 6:4a). If a lack of knowledge can bring destruction, then knowledge of God’s Word can bring health and prosperity! Until you settle it in your heart from God’s Word that He wants you to live a victorious life, you will never have the faith you need to be a partaker of the benefit of divine healing. God’s Word is very clear that He demands faith in His Word. Faith is very important. The promises of God are not just automatic. We must take hold of them with our faith. And you can only have faith for something that you know belongs to you as a child of God.

Consider James 5:14-15 as another piece of evidence. It says, “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord (Jesus): And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” If sickness and disease are the will of God, why would God make a provision for healing such as this in His Word? I want you to notice that a prayer for healing is referred to as a prayer of faith. This is very important because you can only pray the prayer of faith for something that you know is promised to you in the Word of God. If you don’t know it is God’s will, you will simply be praying in hope and not faith. Faith is a knowing, not a guessing game. For example, the salvation prayer is a prayer of faith. You knew that it was God’s will for you to be saved, so you prayed in confidence knowing His will in the matter. You never use the words “If it be thy will” in the prayer of faith; because a prayer of faith already knows it is His will. So in James 5:15 a prayer for healing is referred to as a prayer of faith. Evidently, God thinks that He has put enough evidence in His Word that will allow us to pray the prayer of faith and not an “If it be thy will” prayer. The evidence in the Word of God overwhelmingly points to the fact that God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, has made a provision for healing and an abundant life! Study the Bible for yourself to discover the benefits that belong to you as a child of God!

Revealing the Heart

There is one thing that God is interested in capturing in your life, and that one thing is your heart. When I mention the word “heart,” I am not talking about the physical pump in your chest. The Hebrew word that is translated “heart” is defined as intellect, awareness, mind, inner person, inner feelings, deepest thoughts, inner self. By this definition, that would fit into both the spirit and soul of an individual. Some scriptures that talk about the heart seem to point to the spirit man, while others seem to point to the soul of a person. We are a spirit being, we possess a soul (mind, will, and emotions), and we live in a physical body. The reason that the word “heart” seems to imply the spirit and soul of an individual is because they are closely connected. In fact, when you pass away from this earth, your spirit and soul live on. This is proven in the Bible with the account of Lazarus and the rich man (Luke 16:19-31). After they died, they still had emotions, remembrance of their life on earth, and a free will.

God desires for us as Christians to have an undivided heart. Jesus put it this way in Mark 12:30, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. If God is the first priority in your heart, He will be the first priority in your life. Our actions and words are simply an outward manifestation of what is in our heart. I want to give you some Scriptures that talk about the heart; specifically, characteristics of the heart and the importance of maintaining a pure heart as a Christian. I want to encourage you to look up and study these Scriptures on your own.

According to Mark 11:23, Romans 10:8-10, and Acts 8:35-38, faith and doubt are both of the heart. They both originate in the heart of man. Sin is conceived in the heart of man. According to Matthew 5:28, Jesus said the sin of adultery can be committed in your heart even before doing the physical act. Everything in the New Testament deals with the heart of man. If your heart is pure, your motives, words, and actions will be pure. The Word of God says in Psalms 19:14 and Psalms 77:6 that we consider things in, meditate in, and commune with ourselves in our heart. When you are thinking about something, and silently talking to yourself on the inside, that is taking place in your heart. Meditation of the Word of God takes place in your heart. I want to challenge you to make an on purpose, conscious effort to meditate on the Word of God and the things of God as much as possible on a daily basis. If you will faithfully put that into practice, it will revolutionalize your spiritual life. According to Mark 7:6-7, the difference between pure worship and vain or meaningless worship is based on the condition of your heart. When your heart is disconnected from God and you engage in worship, that is vain or meaningless in the sight of God. Why? Because God wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24); God wants us to connect with Him Spirit to spirit, heart to heart; not just lip service.

In Luke 6:43-45, Jesus compares our heart to a tree. Jesus tells us that a tree is known by its fruit. According to that passage, Jesus is telling us that we can determine the condition of our heart and the heart of others by two things; a person’s actions and the words that come out of their mouth. Jesus said that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. We are not to judge people in the sense of condemning and saying there is no hope for them; or to have an opinion of someone without seeing the fruit of that person’s life. We are called however, to be fruit inspectors. How else are we to determine whether we should pursue a friendship or close relationship with a person? The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14 to avoid unequally yoked relationships because they will eventually put your spiritual fire out. This whole subject of judging has really become twisted from the true Biblical definition. A backslidden believer that has some noticeable sin in their life will say, “Don’t judge me” when they are confronted about it. What they are really saying is, “Don’t expose my sin, I like it too much; don’t hold me accountable to the Word of God.” I heard a Christian comedian once say, “If you hear a person say, I go to a church where no one judges me. I can be who I want to be.” The comedian continued to say, “You’re not in a church, you’re in bar.” There are many churches that are operating like a bar. They are not preaching the Word of God, but rather tolerating and accommodating sin in the lives of many. We as Christians are not walking in love when we allow people to stay comfortable in their sin. If you are truly a Christian, a child of God, you will hate sin just as much as your Heavenly Father does, and you will try to help others come out of it with the help of the Holy Spirit.

I want to encourage every Christian to keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). Hide God’s Word in your heart and guard it diligently. The fact is this; your destiny, quality of life, and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is totally dependant upon the condition of your heart.
